What is ESL teaching? What does an ESL teacher do?

An ESL teacher is a teacher of English as a Second Language. There are many different acronyms such as EFL, TEFL, TESOL or ESOL but they are generally talking about the same thing. It is teaching English as either a second or foreign language depending on the status of English in that particular country. The majority of ESL job opportunities can be found abroad. However, there are some opportunities to teach ESL domestically especially with the rise of online ESL teaching.
As an ESL teacher, you will generally be expected to create and deliver your own lessons and support your students in their studies.
